The Benefits and Applications of CNC Milling

Ⅰ. What is CNC milling and what is milling used for?

CNC milling or manual milling is a precision machining process used to machine prismatic parts. Mills with rotating cylindrical heads and multiple flutes are often referred to as end mills. It can be moved along different axes for machining long and narrow gaps, grooves and outer contours. Machine tools used for milling are called milling machines, and CNC milling usually refers to computer numerical control milling. It is a machining process along with drilling, turning and various other CNC machining processes, which means removing material from a workpiece by mechanical means, such as the action of the cutting tools of a milling machine. Since CNC milling supports the use of other machine tools than milling cutters, it can be used for machining processes other than milling, such as drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, etc.

Ⅱ. The benefits of CNC milling

1. The number of CNC milling tooling is greatly reduced, and complex tooling is not required to process parts with complex shapes. If you want to change the shape and size of the part, you only need to modify the part processing program, which is suitable for the development and improvement of new products. 2. The CNC milling process has stable quality, high machining accuracy and high repeatability, which can meet the requirements of high-quality machining.

3. CNC milling has higher production efficiency in the case of multi-variety and small batch production, which can reduce the time for production preparation, machine tool adjustment and process inspection, and reduce the cutting time due to the use of the best cutting amount. 4. CNC milling can process complex profiles that are difficult to process by conventional methods, and even process some unobservable machining parts. CNC milling is an automated process that reduces the need for manual labor, and it has many advantages. CNC milling has high mass production efficiency, good processing consistency and stable quality.

Ⅲ. What are the applications of CNC milling?

Due to the high precision provided by CNC technology, CNC milling is widely used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, medical, and electronics. In the aerospace industry, they are used to make manifolds, bushings and landing gear parts. The medical industry relies heavily on CNC milling to manufacture prosthetics, medical devices, and other FDA-approved medical devices. Additionally, CNC milling is used to manufacture heat sinks, amplifier housings and other electronic parts used in the electronics industry. In addition, CNC milling plays a vital role in the operation of other modern manufacturing techniques. For example, the high-precision copper mold patterns and cavities used in the injection molding process are often created using CNC milling.
